Do you know for certain that you have eternal life and that you will
go to heaven when you die?
The Bible tells us that, “all have sinned and have fallen
short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) This creates a serious
condition because God must judge sin and sinners. The Bible says,
“The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life
through Jesus Christ.” (Romans 6:23)
However, God loves us and doesn’t want to punish us, so He sent
His Son, Jesus, to pay the penalty for our sins by dying on the
cross. The Bible says, “For God so loved the world that he gave
His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in him should not
perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) “God has
demonstrated His love toward us in that while we were sinners Christ
died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
Everyone who desires to be saved from the consequences of his or her
sins and be adopted into the family of God must personally accept
Jesus Christ as Savior by trusting in His death on the cross as
sufficient for salvation. The Bible says, “If you confess with
our mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God has
raised him from the dead, you will be saved…. For whosoever shall
call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:9-10,
13)
One way we exercise believing faith is by praying a prayer
similar to the following:
“Dear God, I confess that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus
died on the cross to save sinners and I believe he rose again from
the dead. I now receive Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior, and I
commit myself to live my life pleasing to Him. Thank you, Father,
for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Is this something that you have done? If not, why don’t you read
that prayer once again and say it from the heart. God will hear and
answer your prayer. All your sins will be forgiven, you will be
adopted into God’s family and God will reserve a place for you in
heaven to be with Him when you die.
